Two Gerber numbers, two parts. 97-022 is the stem and bonnet. 97-014 is the pressure balance cartridge that sits under it. With the 92-294 limit stop they form the stack that comes out of a Safetemp single-lever tub and shower valve.

Where it goes
Gerber's installation guide and parts list covers Safetemp pressure balance tub and shower faucets 49-730, 49-731 and 49-733.
One Gerber parts seller also files these numbers under 49-700, 49-720, 49-721, 49-723, 49-725 and 49-735. Two retailers sell the set for 49-400 and 49-700 valves. No Gerber document was found for those models.
Confirm it is your part
Top view: the brass stem end. Bench photo.
It comes out in pieces: a stem and bonnet on top, a separate spool under it, and a temperature limit stop on the stem. A third-party identification guide treats a one-piece ceramic disc cartridge as a different Gerber series.
The stem is brass with flats. Gerber's guide refers to the short flat side of the stem.
The 97-022 stem and bonnet by itself is listed at 2-1/8 in. tall. It is the short piece. The 97-014 spool is the longer one.
One distributor lists the genuine stem and bonnet and the genuine spool as white.
Gerber's guide says the valve body carries raised SHR and TUB letters.
Two parts sellers note the old spool may be stamped 92-302 instead of 97-014.
Look-alikes
Gerber 97-014 alone, or 97-022 alone
Why it gets confusedListings print both numbers together, so one piece gets ordered when the valve needs the whole stack.
How to tell97-022 alone is the short top piece with the brass stem. 97-014 alone is the spool with no stem. A full stack sold as one cartridge has both, seated together.
Gerber Safetemp II, 95-154 and 95-152
Why it gets confusedNearly the same name. Also a single-handle pressure balance shower cartridge.
How to tellSafetemp II is for the GS-105 fixture. One distributor describes its genuine assembly as clear with a green top. One retailer lists an aftermarket version with a 20-point broach. One distributor lists the genuine Safetemp pieces as white. Gerber's guide names a brass stem.
Gerber 97-013 with 92-298
Why it gets confusedAnother Gerber two-piece pressure balance set with a limit stop.
How to tell97-013 pairs with the 92-298 cartridge, not with 97-022. One distributor lists it for 49-600 and 49-800 shower bodies.
Gerber 97-510
Why it gets confusedAlso a Gerber single-handle pressure balance shower cartridge.
How to tellSellers list it for 49-300 series valves as a ceramic disc cartridge. A third-party identification guide describes it as a single unit, not a separate spool, stem and limit stop.

Where the sources disagree, the figure is left off until it is settled.
Overall length of the assembled stack. Catalogs disagree, so no figure is printed.
Spool length and body diameter, for the same reason.
Stem broach size. Sources describe the flats differently. Measure both flats on the old stem.
49-400 and 49-830 fitment. Two retailers sell the set for 49-400 valves and one seller files the spool under 49-830. No Gerber document was found for either.
Field notes
Gerber's guide shows the brass stem in two positions: standard, and rotated 180 degrees for back-to-back installs or reversed hot and cold supplies. It tells them apart by the short flat side. Note which way the short flat faces on the old stem.
FourHome replacement
The FourHome replacement is a four-piece kit: stem and bonnet, pressure balance spool, temperature limit stop and O-ring.
