Aftermarket catalogs list P004 as the cold stem for the Sayco 308 and T-308 three-handle tub and shower valve, cut with a left-hand thread. The FourHome listing places it behind the right handle. Catalogs give the hot stem, P002, a right-hand thread.

Cold stem, compression, three-handle tub and shower
Cold stem, left-hand thread. BrassCraft's catalog prints it as P004 LH. HD Supply and Everbilt sell replacements against the same number. Sayco literature for it was not located.
Where it goes
Danco lists its cold stem for Sayco bath faucet models 308 and T-308, from 1968.
BrassCraft's catalog pairs P004 LH (cold) with P002 RH (hot) on one tub and shower stem entry for Sayco.
The FourHome listing places it on the cold side, behind the right handle, and states the three stems in this valve do not interchange.
Sayco's own parts literature for this valve could not be located. These fit statements rest on aftermarket catalogs.
Confirm it is your part
Confirm the side. The FourHome listing places the cold stem behind the right handle.
Confirm the thread. A P004 stem backs out clockwise. BrassCraft prints P004 LH, Kissler lists a Sayco stem as Lefthand Cold, and Park Supply lists a Briggs-Sayco stem as LH, Cold.
Count the teeth on the handle end: 16. Everbilt's two cold stems for P004 are both listed at 16 pt.
Inspect the bottom. The FourHome listing describes a flat washer retained by a screw. A stem with an O-ring barrel above the washer is the center diverter, not this part.
Read catalog shorthand carefully. RH and LH describe the thread, not the side of the tub. P004 is the left-hand thread stem, and the FourHome listing places it behind the right handle.
Look-alikes
Sayco P002 hot stem
Why it gets confusedShares the valve and the flat washer tip, and Danco files both under broach B.
How to tellThread hand. BrassCraft lists P002 as RH and P004 as LH. The FourHome hot stem listing puts the right-hand stem behind the left handle.
Sayco 308 and T-308 center diverter stem
Why it gets confusedThird stem in the same valve, with a matching broach.
How to tellIt lives behind the middle handle. The FourHome diverter listing describes an O-ring sealed barrel above its seat washer, and says the hot and cold stems have only the flat washer.
Sayco K1-1116 stem (Everbilt 36434)
Why it gets confusedAnother 16-point Sayco tub and shower stem. The FourHome listing warns against mixing the two up.
How to tellEverbilt lists 36434 as a right-hand stem, 4-3/4 in., replacing Sayco K1-1116. P004 is left-hand.
Danco 11B-3H/C stem for Sayco (17305B)
Why it gets confusedBroach code B, and its Home Depot page names T-308.
How to tellIts Home Depot page lists it as one stem for both hot and cold, for Sayco D-208-D and W-308, in a longer gauge class than Danco's 308 cold stem. Gauge the old stem before choosing between them.

Overall length. The figures in print for this stem do not agree, so no length appears on this page.
Whether the hot and cold stems are one body cut in two thread hands. Most catalogs list two handed parts, one seller offers a single stem with a bonnet for either side, and no source settles it.
Danco 9B-3C (17093B) as a cross-reference. Danco lists it as the cold stem for 308 and T-308, but no Danco page prints P004 and one retailer page prints the hot stem's number against it.
Which stem a T-308 takes. Danco's own page names T-308 on its cold stem for the 308, and the Home Depot page for a longer Danco stem names T-308 as well.

Field notes
Danco's cold stem and Everbilt 63989 are sold with a seat. The seat is a separate part from the stem.
