Moen 1225 and 1225B push-pull single-handle cartridge
Moen calls the 1225 a water flow cartridge: one part under the handle that sets both volume and temperature. It has a plastic shell and a brass stem, and a copper U clip holds it in the valve. Moen dates it to 1981; one retailer calls 1225B the bulk pack.

One-Handle Replacement Cartridge. Moen's cartridge guides list it as 1225 (2 variations).

The same cartridge under the bulk number. One supply house states the B version was packaged for bulk orders. Moen's store marks its other B numbers (Bulk).
Where it goes
Moen's kitchen cartridge guide lists the 1225 for single-handle kitchen faucets with a U-shaped copper clip: 360 degree handles (7300 Series), 180 degree top mount handles, and 130 degree separate handle with separate spout.
Moen's bathroom guide lists it for single-handle lavatory faucets: 360 degree handles (4400 and 4500 Series) and 180 degree top mount handles.
Moen's shower guide lists it for single-handle Standard, Original Moentrol and Moentrol valves, and behind the lower handle of Moentrol with Integrated Transfer Valve systems 3320, 3330 and 3350 (2000 to 2022).
Moen says the 1225 is commonly used in its single-handle faucets produced prior to 2009, with the date varying by style and model. Retail listings of the genuine part exclude Posi-Temp and ExactTemp valves.

Operate the handle. On a tub and shower valve, Moen's shower guide gives the 1225 a handle that pulls out for on and volume, pushes in for off, and rotates for temperature. It gives the 1222 a rotate-only handle.
Find the retainer. Moen lists a U-shaped copper clip that slides into the valve body above the cartridge, and notes it may have gone in from the front or the back.
Check the shell. Moen's instructions refer to plastic tabs on the 1225, and Moen's cartridge guides list it in two variations. A shell that is brass all over is the 1200.
Count the tabs at the top of the shell. There are two. Moen's instructions seat them in the valve body cut outs at 12 and 6 o'clock.
Pull the stem. It is brass, it slides out to a stop, and it carries a small notch. Moen's instructions use that notch to set which side is hot.
Count the seals. Moen's seal kit for the 1225 carries two large O-rings and two grommets for the shell, and two small O-rings for the stem.
Look-alikes
Moen 1200 and 1200B
Why it gets confusedMoen pairs the two numbers. One instruction sheet, INS744F, and one retainer clip, 96365, cover both.
How to tellMoen sells the 1200 as a Single-Handle Brass Replacement Cartridge. Its shell is brass. The 1225 shell is plastic. One parts seller calls the two interchangeable; Danco says its brass 1200 replacement interchanges with plastic cartridges. The 1200 has its own page.
Moen 1222 and 1222B Posi-Temp
Why it gets confusedAnother Moen single-handle tub and shower cartridge. Moen's 104421 puller is listed for the 1200, 1225 and 1222.
How to tellMoen's shower guide describes the Posi-Temp valve as rotate only, pressure balanced, with no volume control. If a tub and shower handle only rotates and does not pull out, the cartridge is not a 1225.
Moen 1255 Duralast (kits 1255, 160657, 150257)
Why it gets confusedMoen's guides give it to single-handle kitchen and lavatory faucets made after 2009, so a newer faucet may not take a 1225.
How to tellMoen lists a retainer nut for the 1255 and a U-shaped copper clip for the 1225. Moen dates the 1255 to after 2009, varying by product category.
Moen 1224
Why it gets confusedOne digit away from 1225, and listed in the same Moen cartridge guides.
How to tellMoen's guides list the 1224 for two-handle and three-handle faucets. Each handle rotates only, and a nut holds the cartridge.

Field notes
The FourHome part as photographed has a clear plastic shell over a brass stem, with black seals at the lower end.
Moen's instructions say the water cannot go back on if the copper clip is damaged or will not seat. Moen sells the clip separately as 96365, for 1200 and 1225 cartridges.
FourHome replacement
The FourHome replacement for Moen 1225 ships as a kit of one push-pull cartridge, two retainer clips and one twist cap removal tool; the 2 pack holds two kits.
