Replacement for Delta RP4993: the coil spring set under the black rubber seat
The spring set under the seat. Bench photo.
  1. Look below the ball or stem. RP4993 is a seat resting on a coil spring, set in a hole in the valve body. Delta packs two seats and two springs.
  2. Check the spring. It tapers. Delta says the wider end goes down into the valve and the seat sits over the narrow end.
  3. Single-handle faucet: the pairs sit under a ball. Delta lists RP4993 with ball RP70 for lever handles and RP212 for knob handles.
  4. Two-handle faucet: a seat and spring sit under each stem unit. Delta's sheets and troubleshooting guide show RP1740, RP25513 or RP24096 above them.
  5. No seat and spring under the ball or stem means a different design. Delta says RP4993 is not used in DST models or model 35955LF.
  6. Combo kits pack an old style set beside the new style. Jones Stephens calls the old style spring long and the new style spring conical. Delta's RP4993 spring has a wide end and a narrow end.

Look-alikes

Delta RP1806 seat and RP3427 spring

Why it gets confusedThey are the two pieces inside RP4993, sold under their own numbers and in 24 packs.

How to tellA distributor's 2000 Delta parts list shows RP1806MBS as 24 seats and RP3427MBS as 24 springs, each without the other. RP4993 is the seat and spring together.

Old style Delta seat and spring

Why it gets confusedCombo kits from Jones Stephens, BrassCraft, Danco (86968) and HD Supply pack old and new style sets in one card.

How to tellJones Stephens lists a long spring in its old style set and a conical spring in its new style set. Delta's RP4993 spring tapers from a wide end to a narrow end. Seat length is not a reliable tell; catalogs disagree on it.

Delta RP3614 single-handle repair kit

Why it gets confusedAnother Delta number for single-handle ball faucets that includes seats and springs.

How to tellA distributor's 2000 Delta parts list describes RP3614 as cam assemblies, O-rings, seats, springs and a wrench. RP4993 is the seats and springs only.

Delta stem units RP1740, RP25513, RP24096

Why it gets confusedNamed beside RP4993 on Delta's two-handle parts sheets and troubleshooting guide, and changed for the same spout drip.

How to tellThese are stems. RP4993 has no stem. Delta's sheets and troubleshooting guide change the seats and springs first and the stem unit only if the leak continues.
