Moen 1200 and 1225 cartridge twist tool, white plastic
A one-piece white plastic tool that goes on the stem of a Moen 1200 or 1225 cartridge and straddles the ears at its top. Moen's instructions turn the cartridge with it to loosen it, take it off, then pull the cartridge by the stem with pliers.

Moen
One-Handle Replacement Cartridge. Moen says its plastic twisting tool comes in the 1225 cartridge kit. This tool is used on it.
Where it goes
Moen's tutorial for installing the 1200 or 1225 cartridge sets the white plastic tool on the cartridge stem so it straddles the ears.
Moen's 1225 articles for kitchen faucets and standard shower valves use the plastic twisting tool from the 1225 cartridge kit. Moen's 92451 seal kit for the 1225 lists a Twisting Tool.
The FourHome listing names the 1200, 1200B, 1225 and 1225B in kitchen, lavatory, tub and shower valves, and states the tool is not for the 1222.

Look for a screw. There is none: the tool is one molded piece. A tool with a knurled screw, a tee handle and a hex nut is Moen's 104421 puller.
Color and material: white plastic. Moen's 1200 and 1225 tutorial calls the tool in the box with a new cartridge the white plastic tool.
Moen's tutorial seats the tool on the cartridge stem so it straddles the two ears at the top of the cartridge. No ears at the top, no fit.
Read the number on the old cartridge. The FourHome listing says it is stamped on the cartridge body or its cap, and lists this tool for the 1200 and 1225 only.
On a single-handle tub and shower mixing valve, work the handle. Moen lists the 1225 handle as push-pull for off, on and volume, rotate for temperature, and the 1222 Posi-Temp handle as rotate only. Moen also lists rotate-only handles for other cartridges, including a 1200 on some transfer valves, so read the number on the cartridge.
A white plastic tool left in the box from a Moen 1225 cartridge or a 92451 kit is Moen's own version of this tool.
Look-alikes
Moen 104421 Cartridge Puller
Why it gets confusedMoen titles it a cartridge puller for the 1200, 1222 and 1225, the same cartridges this tool is used on.
How to tellMoen's 104421 has a knurled screw turned into the cartridge stem, a tee handle, and a hex nut run down onto the valve. It pulls the cartridge out. The twist tool has no screw and only turns the cartridge.
Plastic twisting tool for the Moen 1222, including FourHome's 1222 tool 10 pack
Why it gets confusedMoen's 1222 Posi-Temp article also turns the cartridge with a plastic twisting tool before pulling it.
How to tellMoen does not say whether its 1222 and 1225 twisting tools are the same. The two FourHome tool listings disagree on crossover. Match the tool to the number stamped on the cartridge.
Not printed on this page
Where the sources disagree, the figure is left off until it is settled.
Height, base width and bore. Only the FourHome listing gives them and its own dimension fields give other figures, so none is printed.
Fit on the Moen 1222. FourHome's two tool listings disagree and Moen does not say, so no fit claim is made.
Claims that the tool frees a seized cartridge or pulls one. Moen says only that it helps loosen the cartridge.
A Moen part number for the twisting tool alone. None was found; Moen supplies it with the 1225 cartridge and the 92451 kit.
Danco 86712. Danco's page calls it a cartridge puller for Moen but lists no cartridge numbers.
Field notes
The FourHome tool as photographed is one white plastic piece: two curved prongs rising from a round cup, with a short square drive below.
Moen's INS744F sheet for the 1200 and 1225 draws the tool as a cap set over the stem, turned 90 degrees and lifted off before pliers pull the old cartridge.
FourHome replacement
The FourHome listing ships ten plastic tools per pack, with no cartridge, clip or handle.
